During our recent stay in Athens we wanted (as always) to find some of the best and most trendy restaurants. We did some thorough research and finally decided that we wanted to try out Art Lounge at New Hotel. The Art Lounge is a sophisticated restaurant very centrally located, just a couple of minutes from the main streets of Plaka. From the lobby of New Hotel you take the lift up to the 7th floor, where the Art Lounge is located. Once you walk out of the lift and into the lounge you’ll be stunned by the fantastic view overlooking Athens. The Art Lounge is frequented by celebrities, the Athenian jet-set and international travellers staying at the trendy New Hotel.
Dinner at Art Lounge
The restaurant only has about 10 tables, which gives you a very intimate experience. We were lucky to get one of the tables by the window, which gave us an amazing view of the city. Our very friendly waiter told us about the daily specials (grilled fish, yum) and brought us some fresh baked bread with olive oil and black salt. We asked the waiter to recommend a good greek white wine, which we absolutely loved.
The menu at Art Lounge has something for everyone. The menu spans from Greek food, to Italian, to Mexican and some fusion dishes in-between. This can, at many restaurants, be a bad thing. At Art Lounge though, it actually worked. We wanted to try a lot of different dishes to see what all of the fuzz was about. We ordered a couple of cold and hot appetizers, a couple of mains and their dessert.
We started out with a jar of smoked aubergine salad with grilled flatbread. A great way to start our dinner and a fun twist on a classic Greek dish. We also tried the fresh truffle oil pita.
Shortly after we were served the Black Angus Mini Burgers (about 3 bites), which were incredible. The brioche bun was perfectly toasted and the meat cooked to perfection. Simple and delicious.
Following the burgers we got the Tuna Tostadas with lime, which were very fresh and light.
We had some more of the lovely Greek wine and were ready for our main dishes. Elin had the whole grilled fish of the day with sautéed vegetables and I had the grilled chicken skewer with pita and red onions. 2 classic Greek dishes that were cooked perfectly.
We finished off our meal with a rich chocolate dessert with vanilla ice cream and two perfect coffees.
All in all we loved the quality and taste of the food at Art Lounge. We will definitely come back during our next visit and we highly recommend that you stop by during your trip to Athens - great place for a romantic dinner.
The Art Lounge is owned by New Hotel, which is an excellent boutique hotel in the centre of Athens. You can read our review of New Hotel here or click the image below.
